The Swiss National Commission for the Prevention of Torture (CNPT) released on Friday 23 November, 2012 a report on visits to the four main detention facilities in Switzerland, namely those of Kreuzlingen, Chiasso, Vallorbe and Basel, between March 2011 and March 2012.
The Committee expressed great concern about the reception conditions in the transit center from the airport of Geneva. During its visit, a woman with a child were staying. Given the very limited possibilities of movement, the Committee reported that the transit center is like a prison and is therefore not suitable for the accommodation of families over a long period. CNPT recommends the authorities to transfer the families with children in Vallorbe reception and ensure that children can go to kindergarten or school during the day.
